The Corona situation in Australia is worsening dramatically: authorities in the country of 25 million people today reported more than 64,700 new infections, almost 17,000 more than yesterday and a new high. By comparison, at the end of November, the figures were still at 1,000 to 1,500 new infections daily.
Particularly affected are the most populous states of New South Wales with the major city of Sydney and Victoria with the metropolis of Melbourne. Almost 1,500 people are now hospitalized in the east coast region in connection with Covid-19 – much to the concern of health authorities. Hospitals are short of staff, with around 2,500 hospital staff in isolation as contacts. In some hospitals, male and female nurses were called back to duty even though they had tested positive for the virus.
Israel also has a new high of 11,978 cases today. The previous highest number had been 11,345 on Sept. 2 last year. Only about 61 percent of the 9.4 million Israelis are still considered fully vaccinated. Thirty percent of the population is not vaccinated, and nine percent has expired.
Argentina today recorded 81,210 new infections – also a new high. The numbers coincide with the summer vacations, with thousands of people traveling around the country. Only a few provinces still have restrictions in place.
